SOUTHWEST PRAIRIE WEST

MINOOKA 10 OSWEGO EAST 9

The Red-hot Indians (6-3, 3-0) had only five hits in their SPC West series finale with Oswego East. The Indians put the five hits to good use, scoring 10 runs and sweeping away the Wolves (1-4, 0-3) to move into sole possession of first-place in the SPC West.

Indian senior Nick Gehrke had a single and drove home a pair of Indian runs. Junior Ivan Dahlberg doubled and had an RBI, while junior Caleb Parker and senior Joey Gould both singled and drove home Indian runs.

For the second game in a row, Indian senior RHP Brendan Valdez (2-0) picked up the victory on the mound. Valdez allowed one earned run and two hits in his 2 1/3 innings of relief with two strikeouts.

OSWEGO 13 Plainfield North 0 (SIX INNINGS)

Oswego's (6-2, 1-2) Jeff Behrends and the Tigers (5-1, 2-1) senior Ethan Cook were entangled in a classic scoreless pitcher's duel through four innings.

Then facing a sweep in their crucial SPC West three-game series, the Panther bats erupted. Eight runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth put this in the W column to salvage the victory in Plainfield.

Behrends allowed just four hits in his complete-game shutout.

Brandon Bak, Jake Rock, Alex Brodie and Noah Dutler all singled in the game for the Tigers.

SOUTHWEST PRAIRIE EAST

PLAINFIELD SOUTH 11 JOLIET CENTRAL 1 (FIVE INNINGS)

On Thursday, behind senior RHP Cade Homerding's one-hitter, the Cougars (5-0, 3-0) swept away the Steelmen in Plainfield. Homerding (1-0) struck out three and did not walk a batter. The Steelmen run was unearned.

Junior Zander Tubbs had three hits, including a double, and drove home three South runs. Tylor "Puma" Phommachanhom had a perfect day at the plate with a single, double two bases on balls and scored two runs and drove home three more Cougar runs.

Senior Brennan Phillips chipped in with two hits and an RBI, while senior Jeremy McGuigan hit his first home run of the season.

For the Steelmen, Gabriel Dunne drove home the lone Joliet Central run. Nathan Combs had the lone Steelmen single.

JOLIET WEST 3 ROMEOVILLE 2 (EIGHT INNINGS)

The Tigers (5-5, 3-0) kept pace with Plainfield South (5-0, 3-0) in the SPC East, with the extra-inning victory over the valiant Spartans (3-7, 0-3). The Tigers won the game on a Spartan miscue, off the bat of senior Lucas Coyl, scoring senior Camden Karczewski, who was hit by a pitch.

West junior Ryan Holloway singled, doubled and drove home a run, while the red-hot senior Matt Staria had two more singles and an RBI. Senior catcher Ty Batusich chipped in with a pair of singles for the Tigers.

RHP Staria (1-0) fired two scoreless innings in relief of Tiger starting pitcher Jimmy Anderson to pick up the win. Anderson allowed no earned runs and scattered seven hits in six innings of work with four strikeouts for a no decision.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Spartan junior Jaden Holgado tied the game at two with a ringing, two-run double scoring senior Ulysses Munoz and senior Nate Schuster.

Senior Dylan Scafuri led the 'Ville with a two singles and a double.

WEST SUBURBAN GOLD

DOWNERS GROVE SOUTH 10 HINSDALE SOUTH 0 (SIX INNINGS)

The Mustangs (7-1, 6-1) took over first place in the WSC Gold behind a combined one-hit shutout from Ethan Petera and Josh Bennema. Petera allowed the one hit in his five shutout innings with 12 strikeouts.

Mustangs senior Josh Scolan hit for the cycle (single, double, triple, home run) and drove home two DGS runs, while senior Joe Cozensa, went deep with two mates aboard for a three-run bomb. Senior AJ Taylor and senior Cole Wareheim each had two hits and an RBI, while Mike Butcher was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

WEST SUBURBAN SILVER

DOWNERS GROVE NORTH 10 GLENBARD WEST 5

Finally, in a WSC Silver game, the Trojans (4-4, 1-4) scored 10 runs and actually won the game.

Trojan pitchers Jack Miller, Matt Schellbach and David Morgan stuck out 11 Hilltopper (5-6, 2-6) batters and combined for a four-hitter. Miller picked up the win allowing one hit and having eight punch-outs in his game-winning innings of work.

Schellbach allowed four runs, all unearned, in his two innings of relief with three strikeouts and Morgan needed only four pitches to close out the Trojan win in the Hilltoppers' seventh

Trojan senior Lucas Nielson singled, doubled and drove home three Trojan runs, while George Wolkow had a pair of singles and two RBI. Sean Ryniec, chipped in with a single and two ribbies.

NONCONFERENCE

NILES WEST 17 LINCOLN PARK 1 (FOUR INNINGS)

The Wolves (8-3) blasted the CPS Lions on Thursday. Sean Holbrook had a perfect day at the plate for the Wolves with two singles, two runs scored, a base on balls and three RBI.

NOTRE DAME 14 LAKE FOREST 12

The Dons (4-7) won their third consecutive game, winning the slugfest over the Scouts. Mike O'Conor hit his third home run of the season, singled and drove home three Don runs. Paul DiFranco had a double and had three RBI, while Brendan Dunne had three hits, including a double and had an RBI for the red-hot Dons.
