The Evans family is looking for support from the Joliet community to take the four-plus hour drive to Quincy, IL on April 17 and rally behind 19-year-old Jazz Evans, a Joliet West High School graduate who was brutally attacked early Easter Sunday morning.

Family and friends are organizing a demonstration at Quincy city hall to protest the hate crime perpetrated by Steve Homan, owner of The Barn nightclub, where Evans and a friend were patrons.

"Hold Quincy Police and the Adams County States Attorney accountable! Let's a call for a boycott of The Barn! It needs to be shut down," The Facebook invite reads.

The Evans family including Jazz' parents Shavon and Marvin, aunt Sharron and attorney Keenan Saulter are organizing the rally and will update the Facebook invite with travel arrangements, logistics, and opportunities for group transportation.

A GoFundMe page has been started by Sydney Meyer of Quincy, along with Alyssa Vitale-Shoop and Measha Ferguson Smith.

After one day up, the page had 143 donors and had collected nearly $5,000 of the $15,000 target to help pay for medical bills.
