Abbreviated 2020-21 Hoops season led to an abundance of conference titles for Bugle/Enterprise Newspapers schools

The 2020-21 Bugle/Enterprise Newspapers girls and boys basketball season will never be forgotten.

With the world-wide virus creating havoc for high school sports in Illinois on February 5 the IHSA allowed high school basketball to begin.

Overjoyed to be playing, girls and boys hoopsters went out and had one of the most successful basketball seasons in recent history.

Local girls won eight conference championships, while the boys took home five conference championships.

Enterprise Newspapers Girls Conference Championships

Central Suburban League South

Maine South 14-3

Gardiner twins"Niamh and Nicole, 5-foot-3 point guard Niki Manolis, and junior Emily Pape led Hawks to an undefeated CSLSouth championship season. Pape returns in 2021-22.

East Suburban Catholic Conference

Benet Academy 13-1

Kendall Moriarty, Lenee Beaumont and Morgan Demos led Redwings to ESCC regular season title...Beaumont, Demos and junior three-point sniper Margaret Temple return in 2021-22.

Illinois Central Conference 8

Lisle 7-0

Lions ran the table in IC8 behind Cassidy Allen and Emma Rossin.

Southwest Prairie Conference East

Joliet West 14-1

Lisa Thompson and Grace Walsh led the Tigers to SPC East crown.

Southwest Prairie Conference West

Plainfield North 9-4

Tigers' All-time leading three-point specialist Lexi Hernandez and sophomore Erin Henry led the Tigers to SPC West title.

Southwest Prairie Conference

Joliet West 14-1

Destiny McNair, Lisa Thompson and Grace Walsh led the Tigers to SPC Tournament championship. All return in 2021-22 along with starter Miranda Rosales and sixth-girl Caiside Snapp.

Southwest Suburban Conference Blue

Bolingbrook 10-3

Kennedi Perkins, Madisyn Saracco and Tatiana Thomas led the Lady Raiders to SWSC Blue crown. All return along with starter De' Ahna Richardson in 2021-22.

West Suburban Conference Silver

Downers Grove North 10-2

Ryann Wendt, Eleanor Harris and Kate Gross led the Trojans to WSC Silver title share. The entire roster, paced by Wendt, Harris, Gross, and starters Maggie Fleming, Violet Mitchell and sixth-girl Ella Sebek all return in 2021-22.

Enterprise Newspapers Boys Conference Championships

East Suburban Catholic

Notre Dame 15-3

Louis "The Flying Frenchman" Lesmond, Troy D'Amico and Anthony Sayles led Dons to a second consecutive ESCC title and 29-5 and 15-3 seasons the last two years.

Southwest Prairie Conference East/SPC Championship

Joliet West 13-2

Ashawn Burbridge, Jaiden Lee, Luke Morrow, Andrew Johnson and Terrance Moncrief led the Tigers in a total-team effort to SPC East title.

Southwest Suburban Conference Blue

Bolingbrook 10-5

Kyonte Thomas, Michael Osei-Bonsu and Mekhi Cooper led Raiders to SWSC Blue co-championship.

Osei-Bonsu, Cooper and 6-foot-9 Donaven Younger return in 2021-22. We say goodbye to the last of the Raiders' "Three Amigos" Kai Evans.

West Suburban Conference Silver

Downers Grove North 13-2

Jack Mielke cuts down the nets for Trojans. Mielke, Kyle Engstler and Matt Schellbach led Trojans to WSC Silver co-championship.
