At a meeting held on September 21, 2020, the Lisle Village Board unanimously approved an extended outdoor dining and drinking program. The extension comes as the successful summer season concludes and the fall season begins. Under the terms of the extended program, participating businesses have the opportunity to take advantage of several new provisions including the ability to install shelters and use portable heaters to increase the comfort and convenience for outdoor dining patrons. In addition, outdoor lighting and music will be permitted to contribute to the ambiance of the outdoor dining accommodations.

The COVID-19 Outdoor Eating and Drinking Relief Program was originally intended to expire at the end of October 2020. To further support to Lisle restaurants and bars while continuing to allow for continued social distancing efforts, and to adequately prepare for any potential additional restrictions that may be needed, the extended program provisions were developed.

The program extension is effective until 30 days after the State or the Lisle-area public health region enters Phase 5 of Restore Illinois, or until repealed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees, restricted by State law, prohibited by an Executive Order by the Governor of the State of Illinois, or at the end of the Governor's State of Illinois' emergency declaration regarding COVID-19. Recognizing the uncertain timing of these milestones, the extension of the program will include snow removal protocols and responsibilities.

In May, the COVID-19 Outdoor Eating and Drinking Relief Program was created to support Lisle restaurants and bars as the Village entered Phase 3 of the State's Restore Illinois Plan. Support was provided in the form of a temporary suspension of Village Code regulations that would inhibit the ability to conduct or expand outdoor eating and drinking service, both on private property and in Village rights-of-way. The program has assisted participating businesses in continuing operations during the latest phases of the Restore Illinois Plan.
