Niles Senior Center closure

In light of growing concern about the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and out of an

abundance of caution for the safety of older members of the community who may be at increased

risk of getting sick, the Village of Niles will be closing the Niles Senior Center until further notice.

Effective immediately, all Senior Center programs, classes, activities, meetings and events are

cancelled until further notice. The building itself will remain open through the end of the day on

March 12, and then will be closed to the public until further notice.

The Senior Center will issue credits to member accounts for all pre-paid programs and activities

affected by the closure, after the date of the program has passed. The Meals on Wheels program

will continue and items from the Lending Closet will be available by appointment only. Should

seniors have any questions, the Niles Senior Center staff will be available by phone during regular

business hours at (847) 588-8420.

Niles Family Services will remain open, and visitors should use the doorbell located on the east side

of the building to gain entry. The Niles Family Fitness Center remains open with all regular

offerings. However the Village of Niles urges individuals who are sick or who may have

compromised immune systems to stay home.

While the risk of contracting Coronavirus in the Niles area remains low, the Village of Niles

reminds residents to practice common-sense hygiene such as washing hands and covering coughs as

the best method of preventing the spread of infectious disease. Most importantly, individuals

should stay home when feeling sick.

Updates will be provided to the community as the situation evolves.
