Respond to the 2020 Census

It’s almost time to respond to the 2020 Census. The Census is a constitutionally required count of the population that takes place every ten years. Census data affects districts for elected representatives, funding for schools and government services, and even data that businesses use to make decisions about new developments. Individuals’ information is secure and is never shared with other government agencies.

The self-response period begins on March 12. Residents will receive an invitation in the mail with instructions on how to take the Census online at that time. You will receive reminders over the following weeks. If you do not respond online, you will receive a paper Census questionnaire in the mail, then an in-person Census-taker.

The Census is important. Please respond, and support your community. For more information on the impact, security, and ways to respond to the Census, visit the Census website at 2020census.gov.

Water Meter Replacement Program

The Village of Niles has started a Meter Replacement Program throughout the Village. The Village has signed a contract with (PMI) Professional Meter, Inc. The meter replacement program is mandatory for the selected residents. Meters will be installed systematically throughout the Village, and when PMI is approaching a neighborhood, residents in the area will be sent a series of postcards requesting them to schedule an appointment. Residents are asked to be responsive and schedule an appointment once this notification is received.

It is important that residents respond in a timely manner. As of 1-31-2020, approximately 32 percent of selected residents have scheduled or completed their installation.

Residents will be expected to have an adult over the age of 18 years old home at the time of appointment, which should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. On the date of the water meter change out, the resident should take precautions and look for the logo on the installer’s uniform and vehicle and make sure the installer’s ID is visible before allowing the installer to enter the home. If you are unsure about any suspicious activity, please do not hesitate to contact the Police Department at (847)-588-6500. The Village of Niles appreciates your assistance with this program and thanks you in advance for your cooperation.

For general questions, Niles Public Works can be reached at (847)-588-7900.
