Large ruts create potential hazard along Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Path users should proceed with caution along a portion of the Wauponsee Glacial Trail just south of Laraway Road in Joliet, where two large ruts or bumps were inadvertently created during contractual work taking place in the area. The potential hazard is about four-tenths of a mile south of Laraway Road.

Contractors driving across the trail to perform tasks on the ComEd high power lines at that location created two large ruts or bumps in the crushed limestone trail.

After the damage to the trail was discovered by Forest Preserve staff, warning signs were erected to let trail users know about the bumps as they approach from the north or south.

The Forest Preserve District is working to resolve the issue. However, winter conditions may delay the work.
