For the Maine South Hawks (20-5, 6-2), Friday night was a special night at home in Park Ridge.

Junior Niamh Gardiner buried the Spartans (11-10, 2-6) with seven long-range, three-point bombs among her game-high 23 points. Sister Nicole Gardiner had eight points but joined Niahm with the long-range shooting display with two from beyond the arc.

TheCougars (12-9,7-4 East) slipped past the Tigers (12-11, 5-6 West) to win the 'Plainfield Civil War'. The Cougars controlled the first half going to their halftime locker room with a 28-18 lead.

After South scored the first basket of the third quarter for a 30-18 lead, the Tigers went to work.

Katie Jasko (two points) pulled the Tigers within 30-20. A Plainfield North artillery barrage followed. Consecutive three-pointers from Erin Henri, Lexi Hernandez (11 points) and two consecutive from Tiger Beatrice Atienza gave the Tigers the lead 31-30 .

In the fourth quarter the two teams went back and forth. Sadie Guy put North up 44-43 before South scored the last three points of the game for the victory.

Joliet Central 56 Oswego East 50

The Steelwomen (21-4, 9-2 East) pulled within one game of idle Joliet West (20-3, 10-1 East) in the SPC East standings.

Minooka 38 Plainfield Central 33

When a girls' hoops team has fallen in all 10 of their conference match-ups, it is a must for someone to step it up.

For Minooka (5-21,1-10 West) that person was senior Brooke McNally. On Friday, in the closing minutes of the Indians' SPC crossover battle with Plainfield Central (11-14, 5-6 East), McNally drained a pair of baseline jumpers to lead the Indians to their first SPC win.

Senior Abby Pettigrew and sophomore Brianna Simmons shared scoring honors for the victorious Indians.
