Kalkanis attends first full meeting on Board

Trustee was sworn in last month

Along with the new year, the Plainfield Village Board has welcomed a new member.

Patricia “Patty” Kalkanis was sworn on last month and attended her first full meeting Jan. 6. Kalkanis has been appointed to fill the term of former Trustee Larry Newton, who resigned in November after accepting a job in another state. Kalkanis’ term runs through April 2021.

“I’ve known from living here in the village for three years that managing growth and population are significant concerns,” Kalkanis said. “I hope I can help with some innovative ways to accommodate (growth) in a positive way.”

An attorney for eight years, Kalkanis works for the Tomczak Law Group. “Now that she’s here, we’re going to have three lawyers sitting up there during our board meetings. That ought to keep us in line,” Mayor Mike Collins said.

Kalkanis grew up in Wadsworth, attended Roosevelt University and received her law degree from Western Michigan University.

“Being a new resident and having a 5-month-old son who’s going to grow up in this community, I want to focus on any improvements we can make,” she said.m
