Village Green Project Update

Construction in the Village Green area has been completed for this year with additional improvements scheduled to begin in the spring. The underground improvements completed this year are the second phase of a three year project. Substantial improvements were made to the Village’s public utilities. Improvements to the Village’s water distribution system included the installation of approximately 5,200 feet of new water main and the upgrade of approximately 100 water services to current standards. Approximately 4,400 feet of new storm sewer and 700 feet of new sanitary sewer main were also completed this year.

Holiday Reminders

-The Village Offices will be closed December 24-25, 2019 (Christmas) and January 1, 2020 (New Year’s Day).

-Refuse collection will be delayed due to the holidays. After Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, refuse collection for Wednesday and Thursday routes will be delayed one day.

Business License Renewals

Just a friendly reminder for local business owners, the 2020 Village of Plainfield Business License Application, for residential and commercial businesses, is due December 31, 2019. Please click here for more information

Christmas Tree Disposal

After the holiday, Waste Management will pick up live Christmas Trees and decorative greenery on your regular refuse collection day. Trees should be bundled properly and placed at the curb. Larger trees must be cut so that each piece is four feet or shorter in length and width and tied with string, weighing 50 pounds or less. Regular yard waste collection will resume in April 2020.

The Will County Clerk’s Office is hiring judges for the March 17, 2020 General Primary and the November 3, 2020 General Election. To apply, visit the County Clerk’s web site or for more information contact the Clerk’s office at 815-740-4617.

Make Sure Plainfield Counts

It’s that time again; the U.S. Census Bureau will be conducting population counts next year. It is important for residents to respond in order to ensure our area is accurately represented and receives its fair share of federal funding that is used for social service programs, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.

Watch your mail in March for more information on how to complete your Census form. Remember, your responses are confidential, secure, and protected.

Everyone is invited to join Mayor Collins for coffee and conversation on Wednesday, January 8, at 9 a.m. at the Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Village!

Green Village Program: Tropical Terrariums

The 2020 Green Village Series kicks off on Monday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m., at the Plainfield Library. Add a bit of the tropics and clean theair in your home this winter. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to make a terrarium. Register online. The Green Village Series is a partnership between the Plainfield Library and the Village to provide the community with environmentally-friendly programs.

State of the Village

Office Closures

In 2020, the Village Offices will be closed on: January 20 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day); February 17 (Presidents’ Day); May 25 (Memorial Day); July 3 (Independence Day observed); September 7 (Labor Day); November 11 (Veteran’s Day); November 26-27 (Thanksgiving); and December 24-25 (Christmas).

Refuse Collection Delays

Refuse collection will be delayed due to the following holidays:

Memorial Day (Monday, May 25, 2020) - Refuse collection will be one day late all week.

Independence Day (Saturday, July 4, 2020) – Refuse will be picked up on your regular collection day.

Labor Day (Monday, September 7, 2020) - Refuse collection will be one day late all week.

Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26, 2020) – Refuse collection for Thursday routes will be delayed by one day.

Christmas (December 25, 2020) - Refuse will be picked up on your regular collection day.

Electric Aggregation Information

The Village is part of the Will Electric Aggregation Group which selected Constellation as its electric supplier in October 2018. The negotiated rate is $.07517/kWh and the contract runs through October 2021.

ComEd recently released their rates for the next 12 months. These rates will be lower than those provided by Constellation.

-Constellation rate: $0.07517/kWh

-ComEd summer rate: $0.06725/kWh

-ComEd non-summer price: $0.07216/kWh (estimated, may be adjusted slightly)

Residents are able to opt-out of the contract with Constellation, at anytime, with no penalty or fee, by contacting Constellation Energy at 1-844-252-4216 or online at http://www.constellation.com/il-willcounty. For more information on the municipal aggregation agreement, click here.

If you are a member of a Homeowners Association Board (HOA) or a management company that represents a local HOA, please e-mail the Village your contact information (name, address, phone number, e-mail address, subdivision, and Board position). That way, we can provide information regarding work that is scheduled to occur in your subdivision.
