Downers Grove South High School will induct five new members into its Class of 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 14. The induction ceremony will take place in the Large Gym during halftime of the varsity basketball game vs. Addison Trail at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The five South High Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include:

Ben Apland, Class of 2008, Wrestling

Ben had an outstanding high school wrestling career. In his three years as a varsity starter, he established himself among the elite of South High Wrestling. Ben was a quiet leader and a role model for winning with poise and confidence. Among his many accolades, he was a 3-time USA Wrestling All-American and a state champion at 215 lbs. his senior year. He was an excellent student and went on to wrestle at the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering.

Mindy (Sick) Munger, Class of 1990, Cross Country/Track

Mindy earned eight varsity letters at South High School, four in Girls Cross Country and four in Girls Track; additionally, she earned IHSA All-State honors in cross country and track. While attending college, Mindy lettered in cross country and track and was voted twice for most inspirational member for Women's Crew at Harvard University and graduated with honors (Cum Laude) with a degree in anthropology in 1994.

Greg Novak, Class of 1989, Track

Greg Novak was a three sport athlete (football, cross country, and track at South High. In track, Greg was a middle distance runner and ran the relays for the Mustangs setting records and earning conference titles in his junior and senior years. Greg earned All State honors his senior year by capturing the 5th place medal in the 800 meter run. Greg went on to run track at Indiana University where he helped the Hoosers win four Big Ten track championships.

Melissa (Eckerle) Sang, Class of 1995, Soccer

Melissa (Eckerle) Sang was a standout soccer player at South High. She started at midfield all four years and ranked in the top ten in career assists and goals. Melissa earned all All-State and All-American honors in 1995. Melissa went on the play at Loyola University in Chicago. She was a 4-time MCC All-Tournament selection and 4-time MCC Student Athlete. Melissa was a nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year in 1999. She graduated with a BS in Psychology and holds a Masters degrees in Social Work and School Leadership.

Scottie Williams, Class of 2009, Football

A star running back at South High and at Elmhurst College, Scottie distinguished himself both on and off the field. He was voted All-State by the football coaches association in addition to holding numerous records and honors while playing for the Mustangs. After his senior year, he enrolled at Elmhurst College to play DIII football for the Blue Jays. In his time there, he set many rushing records, earned All-American status, and in 2012, he won the Gagliardi Trophy awarded each year to the best DIII college football player.
