The Plainfield Lions Club, in one of its many community outreach programs, will once again spend the holidays assisting families in need through its Christmas "Basket" program. The Plainfield Lions Club is now in its 72nd year of serving the local community.
Over the years, actual baskets of food have given way to gift certificates from Jewel Foods, but the club still prides itself on providing holiday feasts for area families in need.
Last Christmas, the Lions gave to 660 people in 127 families.
In the past 20 years, the Plainfield Lions Club has touched over 2100 families with $243,350 in food gift certificates.
As the Plainfield area has grown, so has the number of families in need. It is only because of community donations that the Lions Club can reach more people. Last year. through community generosity and outreach, the Lions Club received S8,080 in donations!
The organization conducts fund-raisers throughout the year to fuel the Christmas "Basket" program as well as other outreach efforts such as the free spaghetti dinner for seniors and providing glasses and eye care to those in need. Fund-raisers include a spring dinner/silent auction, a summer golf outing and the popular nut sale during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
If you would like to help the Plainfield Lions Club meet the ever-increasing need in our area, it would be most appreciated.
Donations should be made payable to: Plainfield Lions Club Chairities and mailed to Larry Wiers, 16116 Chablis Lane, Plainfield, IL 60586.
