State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant wishes veterans across the region a happy Veterans Day.

Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) urges residents to look for opportunities to thank local veterans on Monday, Nov. 11 and throughout the year.

"Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices our brave heroes have made to protect our democratic rights and freedoms," Bertino-Tarrant said. "I urge residents to take time this month to reach out to the veterans in your life to thank them for their great service to our nation and community."

Bertino-Tarrant pushed a number of veterans' initiatives this year including streamlining the process for Illinois veterans to receive state identification cards or driver's licenses with a veteran designation, recognizing missing veterans at state airports, and securing funding for veterans programs and state homes to better serve servicemen and -women.

"These new laws are our way of showing appreciation for all they do to keep us safe," Bertino-Tarrant said. "I will continue to look for ways to help streamline processes, ease the stress of transitioning back to civilian life and better serve our veterans, servicemen and -women and military families."

Bertino-Tarrant urges veterans, service men and women and military families to reach out to her office at (815) 254-4211 for help connecting with state and local assistance programs.
