State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant is partnering with the AARP to host a free workshop – Prescription Affordability and Coverage on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the White Oak Library – Crest Hill Branch.

Seniors are the age group that spends the most money for their prescription Drugs as well as their retiree health care.

"Residents on a fixed income are struggling to keep up with the rising costs of prescription drugs," Bertino-Tarrant said. "This informative workshop will help connect residents with updated information on state and federal programs to help ease the financial burden of necessary medications."

Courtney Hedderman of AARP Illinois will present latest information on federal and state prescription drug affordability measures as well as Medicare open enrollment details.

Bertino-Tarrant most recently championed a measure in the Senate to cap out-of-pocket costs for insulin.

"People living with diabetes don't have the option of choosing whether or not they want to use insulin, and the fact that some do have to make that choice is unacceptable," Bertino-Tarrant said. "Lifesaving medications should be affordable. Corporations need to stop placing profits over people."

Bertino-Tarrant urges residents to reach out to her office at (815) 254-4211 or visit http://www.SenatorBertinoTarrant.com with any questions or concerns.
