Silver Cross offers classes and support groups in November

AHA Healthcare Provider BLS CPR

LPNs, RNs, Paramedics, EMTs and CNAs (and students) will learn one- and two-person infant, child and adult CPR as well as rescue from choking. Participants will receive their American Heart Association certificate at the successful completion of the course. This course is for health care providers only. The AHA Healthcare Provider BLS CPR class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Silver Cross Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Cost is $65 per person. Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery to Treat Back and Neck Pain

Living with neck and back pain can be debilitating. Prepared Childbirth Classes

Silver Cross Hospital will offer a two-part weekday Prepared Childbirth Class on Monday, Nov. 18, and Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. All classes will be held in the hospital's Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a certified childbirth class instructor on breathing and relaxation. She will also review the labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and other birthing options. A tour of the Birthing Unit is included. Cost is $80 per couple. Register at http://www.silvercross.org.

Obesity & Your Health

Looking to lose weight? Join Drs. Silver Cross Hospital will offer free Birthing Center Tours for expectant families at the hospital, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The hour-long tours are offered Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and one Tuesday a month at 7:30 p.m. in the hospital's luxurious birthing suites. Register at http://www.silvercross.org

Blood Pressure Screenings

Silver Cross offers free blood pressure checks daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. Walk-ins welcome. For more information, call (708) 364-6337.

Calcium Artery Scoring Screening

Silver Cross Hospital offers a quick and painless test using a high-speed CT scanner that can measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries to determine your risk of having a heart attack. Calcium artery scoring is ideal for men over age 45 and women over age 55 who smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a family history of premature coronary artery disease. Postnatal Physical Therapy Screenings

The Shirley Ryan Ability at Silver Cross offers free postnatal physical therapy screenings for women six weeks to one-year post-delivery and who are experiencing pelvic or perineal pain, urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse or separation of the abdominal muscles. Screenings take place at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. During the 15-minute exam, a new mom's birthing history and current problems will be reviewed. Women's Pelvic Health Consultation

Baby Bereavement Support Group

Silver Cross Hospital offers a support group for parents who have experienced loss during pregnancy, at birth or shortly after, or from early Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The Baby Bereavement Support Group will meet Thursday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the hospital's Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., Pavilion A, New Lenox. Breastfeeding Support Group

The Silver Cross Birthing Center's certified lactation consultants will host a free breastfeeding support group meeting on Friday, Nov. 1 and 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the hospital's Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. New mothers have many questions and concerns about breastfeeding in the weeks leading up to and after birth. The Breastfeeding Support Group is a way to exchange information and experiences. Stroke Support Group

Stroke survivor's family members and caregivers are welcome to attend the Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute's Stroke Support Group. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 13 and 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.
