A father and son are dead after a tragic domestic disturbance occurred Sept. 21 in Joliet.

When the SWAT team breached the house, they found the child and the 35-year-old man dead from gunshot wounds, police said.

An autopsy performed by the Kendall County Coroner's office showed 18-month-old Colton Michael Miller was shot multiple times by his father, Christopher Michael Miller, 35, of Joliet.

At 2:45 p.m. neighbors called police after hearing a woman screaming from a house in the 8300 block of Buckingham Lane. An officer arrived to meet a 32-year-old woman and 9-year-old girl with "fresh injuries" in front of the house, police said.

"The officer was (told) gunshots came from the house moments before his arrival," police said.

Police learned the woman's estranged husband was in the house with the former couple's 1-year-old son.

A SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene, but were unable to communicate with the man inside.

The woman and her daughter were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
