Village of Plainfield holding food drive for community

Village's efforts will benefit Bags of Hope, a private backpack food program, the Green Harvest Food Pantry, and the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry

The Village of Plainfield is hosting a food drive through September 20 for National Hunger Action Month.

The village's efforts will benefit Bags of Hope, a private backpack food program, the Green Harvest Food Pantry, and the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry.  The food pantries would appreciate donations of: oatmeal and cereal; canned chicken and tuna; peanut butter and jelly; pasta and pasta sauce; flour; sugar; rice; canned fruits and vegetables; soups; ramen noodles; macaroni and cheese; condiments and boxed potatoes. Personal hygiene products like soap, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste; baby items such as diapers, wipes, formula and food); and household cleaning and paper products (tissues, toilet paper, paper towels) are also welcomed. 

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: C.W. Avery Family Y.M.C.A., 15120 Wallin Drive; Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 24109 W. Lockport Street; Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois Street; Plainfield Township Community Center, 15014 S. DesPlaines Street; Prairie Activity & Recreation Center (PARC), 24550 W. Renwick Road; Streams Recreation Center, 24319 Cedar Creek Lane; and the Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street. 

Donations made at the library on Sept. 18 will count for $5 off any outstanding library fines, excluding lost or damaged items. From Sept. 20 to 23, anyone donating five items at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA will receive no joiner fee for new memberships or three extra guest passes for current members.
