Incoming Plainfield North High School freshman Logan Huegel has won the 14U MLB Junior Home Run Derby in Los Angeles.

With 14 home runs in the final round - and 29 total - Huegel was named champion on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

"Playing at Dodgers Stadium gave me the point of view of what it is like to be a professional baseball player," Huegel said.

"It was very cool to hit in a stadium that MLB players play at," he said.

Huegel is no stranger to the fierce competition.

At 11-years-old, he signed up for the Derby after seeing a commercia and then qualified and made it to the Finals in Cincinnati, Ohio, he said.

In 2020, the Derby was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

And in 2021, Huegel won third place at the Finals in Atlanta, Georgia.

Huegel has been playing baseball since he was able to walk and hold a ball, he said.

"It was a once in a lifetime experience for me," Huegel said on competing and winning the Derby.

"I will always cherish and remember every second of it," he said.

Huegel plans to play baseball at PNHS.
