After the huge SPC West win over Plainfied North on Thursday, the Southwest Prairie West-leading Indians (8-6) can be excused for a little let-down on Friday, although coach Jeff Petrovic will not agree.

The Indians were only able to muster five hits off Providence (10-6) junior Tyler Young. Junior Mitch Thomas had a single and a triple, while sophomore Caleb Parker, junior Casey Swanson and senior Joey Gould all had singles for the Indians.

Indians starting RHP Josh Davis (0-1) allowed just two runs and seven hits in his quality five innings of work on the mound. Davis struck out seven Celtic batters.

MAINE SOUTH 6 BENET ACADEMY 4

The Hawks (9-8) won their third consecutive victory, holding off the Redwings (3-7) in Lisle.

Junior Charlie Schau continued his hot-hitting with a single, double and an RBI, while senior Alexander Gonzalo had a single and two RBI for the red-hot Hawks.


Starting and winning Hawks RHP Arran Barliant allowed one earned run and five hits in his game-winning six innings of work.

The Redwings were led by Ryan Nelson, who had a single and drove home two Redwing runs, while Pete Messina doubled and had an RBI.

WESTMONT 14 KIRKLAND HIAWATHA 0 (five innings)

The Sentinels (5-16) were led by Spencer Anton and freshman Noah Valentin. Anton fired a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts at Hiawatha. Anton helped himself at the plate with a single, double and drove home three Sentinel runs. Valentin added a single, double and drove home four Sentinel runs. Brendan Chmielewski had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate, with a double, triple and two RBI.

LINCOLN-WAY EAST 13 BOLINGBROOK 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Raiders (4-6, 0-1) were held to just four hits by the Griffins (13-1, 1-0). Junior Matt Boland continued his torrid hitting with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate. Sophomore Jonny Carrera, doubled and senior Matt Pampuch chipped in with a single.
