PLAINFIELD EAST 9 WAUBONSIE VALLEY 5

Waubonsie Valley led 3-2 as this one went to the bottom of the fifth, before the Bengals (2-3) exploded for three runs. Bengal senior Ryan Skiba (2-for-3, 2B, 2RBI) tie thed game with a one-out RBI single, 3-3. Junior Jake Denton (2-for-4, 2RBI) put the Bengals up for good with a two-run single for a 5-3 Bengal lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, junior Christian Mitchelle turned the lights out on the Warriors, when he smashed a grand slam for a 9-3 Bengal lead.

Sophomore RHP Brady Louck picked up the win on the mound for East. Louck allowed no earned runs and three hits, while striking out six Warrior batters in his three innings of relief.

ST CHARLES NORTH 11 LOCKPORT 9

After winning their third consecutive WJOL/Don Ladas Memorial Baseball Tournament on Thursday night, the Porters headed out to Fox River country to face the Northstars of St. Charles North (7-0).

In the Porters' (5-2) opening-day loss to Brother Rice, 8-4, seven Porter errors led to seven unearned runs and the loss.

On Friday, the old bug-a-boo struck again as the Porters made four errors that led to six unearned runs and their second loss of the season.

Porter senior second baseman Matt Santarelli (2-for-4, 2R, HR,RBI) gave the Porters an early 1-0 lead when he led off the game with a home run. The Northstars opened up an 11-4 lead and hold off the never-say-die Porters 11-9.

With two out in the top of the seventh and the Porters trailing 11-6, WJOL/Don Ladas Memorial Tournament MVP Victor Izquierdo (2-for-4, 2B, 4RBI) doubled with the bases loaded. The bases clearing double pulled the Porters to within 11-9 but they would get no closer.

Sophomore Anthony Martinez had a pair of singles and drove home a Porter run, while Arnoldo Velazquez added a single and a ribbie. Ricky Pospisil continued his hot-hitting, with a double and an RBI.

NAZARETH 6 BOLINGBROOK 5

The Roadrunners of Nazareth Academy (8-0) must have something against the Valley View School District schools. On Wednesday, the Roadrunners walked-off against Romeoville 8-7. On Friday they did it again, this time to The Brook.

The Brook (3-2) led 4-2 in the top of the fifth before the Roadrunners tied the game at 4-4 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Raiders retook the lead on a Roadrunner miscue in the top of the seventh, 5-4.

With two outs and two Roadrunners on base, a Raiders miscue allowed Nazareth to tie the game at 5-5. The next batter singled home the winning run for the Roadrunners' second consecutive walk-off win against the Valley View school district.

Raider senior Andrew Hermann singled, doubled and scored three runs to lead the Raiders. Senior Hunter Hrycyk, doubled and drove home a Raider runs, while sophomore Johnny Carrera had two hits, including a double. Junior Dillon Hinojosa chipped in with a pair of singles and scored two Raider runs.

The Redwings (1-2) had only one hit in the game coming from junior Matthew Nelson

LOYOLA 12 MAINE SOUTH 6

The Hawks (3-5) led 5-3 before the Ramblers exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fourth and rolled to the victory. The Hawks used the long ball as Charlie Schau, Danny Sullivan, William Meyer and Keriem Orucevic, all hit solo home runs. Alexander Gonzales chipped in with a pair of doubles.

PLANO 7 WESTMONT 3

The Sentinels (1-9) led 3-1 as the non-conference game with the Reapers (4-0), went to the bottom of the fourth. Disaster struck as the Reapers erupted for five runs and rolled to the victory. Junior Jason Czaplewski had three more hits to lead the Sentinels, including a pair of doubles. Freshman Lucas Hicks tripled and drove home two runs, while senior James Postawa singled and had an RBI.

DOWNERS GROVE SOUTH 9 LEYDEN 1

Ethan Patera. The 6-foot-4, 230 pound Mustang RHP was almost perfect on Thursday. Patera struck out 16 Leyden Eagles and walked only one. The Eagles (2-4, 2-3) did not get a hit as the Mustangs (4-1, 4-1) rolled in the WSC Gold battle.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and cruised to the win behind Patera, AJ Taylor and Kyle Fenner.

Taylor had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a double and Fenner singled, doubled and drove home a Mustang run. Joe Consenza drove home three Mustang runs with a double. Matt Scolan chipped in with a single and an RBI

Petera (2-0) has has allowed one hit in his 12 innings of work this season with 25 strikeouts with an 0.00 ERA.

PLAINFIELD SOUTH 9 BOLINGBROOK 8

In their season opener, the Cougars scored eight runs in the first inning for a seemingly insurmountable lead after one inning. The surprising Raiders from the 'Brook had other ideas, rallying to eventually tie the game at 8-8 with a six-run fifth inning.

Plainfield South (1-0) senior Riley Jepsen led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, steal second and advance to third on defensive indifference. With one out, Jepsen was gunned down at the plate for the second out of the inning,

To the plate strolled Cougars senior Tylor "Puma" Phommachanhom.

Puma sent Cougar fans dancing onto Ridge Road after he ripped a single to right as junior Zander Tubbs, who had walked, danced onto home plate with the Cougars game-winner. Firing two innings of shutout relief in the sixth and seventh innings, Phommachanhom's game-winner, also made him the winning pitcher as well.

For Phommachanhom, the game-winner was his fourth single of the game in five at bats. Jepsen had a pair of singles and a double driving home two Cougar runs. Senior Cooper Schmid hit a three-run blast in the eight-run Cougar first. Senior Jake Staub chipped in with a single and two RBI.

The red-hot Raiders senior second baseman Connor Quigley had a pair of singles and drove home three Raider runs. Raider senior Hunter Hrycyk and junior Miles Williams each had doubles and drove home two Raider runs. Senior Bryce Pampuch chipped in with a single and a double for The Brook (3-1).

ROMEOVILLE 5 FENWICK 0

The Spartans returned to .500 for the season at 3-3, behind a combined six-hit shutout from junior RHP Nick Kolze and senior RHP AJ Sanchez. Kolze (2-0) scattered six hits and struck out 11 and fired 5 2/3 scoreless innings at the Friars (0-1). Sanchez struck out two in his 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the save

Kolze helped himself out at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Senior Tyler Spiecker continued his hot hitting with a pair of singles and an RBI. The Spartans football placekicker, Corey Boyette, who wrapped up his Spartans football season Friday, added a double and an RBI.

BENET 14 WHEATON WARRENVILLE SOUTH 1 (five innings)

The Redwings (1-1) crushed the Tigers, exploding for eight runs in the third inning to wrap up their first win of the season early. Redwing juniors Peter Messina and Tyler Dean had perfect days at the plate. Messina was 3-for-3 with a double and drove home two Redwing runs, while Dean was 2-for-2 with a double and had an RBI. Senior Steven Drabowski singled and drove home a pair of Redwing runs while senior Ryan Radek had a double and two RBI.

On the mound for the Redwings, sophomore Sam Zagorac (1-0) picked up the win allowing one run in his 2 2/3 innings of work with five strikeouts.

MAINE SOUTH 13 CONANT 4

The Hawks (3-4) pounded out 13 hits and broke this one open with a six-run top of the seventh. Senior Timmy O'Brien had five of the Hawks 13 hits in his perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate. O'Brien had four singles, a double, scored two runs and drove home three. Senior Charlie Schau continued his torrid hitting with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with an RBI.

Arran Barliant added a double and drove home two Hawk runs while Danny Sullivan chipped in with a single and two ribbies.

Barliant fired a seven-hitter at the Cougars, allowing just one earned run while striking out eight and walking just one.

NILES WEST 14 HOLY TRINITY 1 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Wolves (5-1-1) continued to roll, crushing their guests from Chicago behind Alex Cherian and KeSean Watson. Cherian had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a double, triple and two RBI, while Watson drove home three Wolves runs with a double and a triple.

Junior Brendan Som also doubled, tripled and had two RBI for the Wolves. Freshman Eisen Kim had a perfect day at the plate, with two singles and scored three runs.

Sophomore RHP Jack Butera fired a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for the Wolves.

MAINE WEST 13 NOTRE DAME 8

The Dons (1-5) led this one 7-6 before the host Warriors scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to roll to the victory. The Dons were led by the red-hot Mike O'Connor, who singled, homered and drove home two Don runs. Keenan Burgos singled, walked three times and drove home three Don runs, while Nick Giamarusti and Joey Cullen each had triples and RBI for ND.

METRO SUBURBAN CROSSOVER

ST FRANCIS 18 WESTMONT 6 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Sentinels (1-8, 0-3) fell in the MSC crossover in Wheaton on Thursday. Junior Jason Czaplewski had three hits for the Sentinels and drove home a pair of runs. Junior Caleb Kleinz had three RBI, while freshman Noah Grimm, chipped in with a single and an RBI.

WJOL DON LADAS MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

FIFTH PLACE

JOLIET CATHOLIC 11 JOLIET WEST 1 (6 innings)

The Hilltoppers (3-3) crushed the Tigers behind junior RHP Luke Radicevich (1-0) and sophomore Trey Swiderski. Radicevich totally shutdown the hard-hitting Tigers (2-4) allowing just one unearned run and two hits, in his solid five-inning performance on the mound. At the plate Radicevich had a pair of doubles and drove home a Hilltoppers run.

Swiderski had a perfect day at the plate for The Hill, including a double, scored three runs and drove one home.

Senior Clemente Torres added a big double with three RBI, while all-tournament selection, senior Ben Stoner, added a single and a ribbie. Junior Ryan Louthan doubled and drove home a Hilltopper run and junior Lorrenzo Rios chipped in with a pair of singles.

The Tigers (2-4) had hits from senior Camden Karczewski and junior Manny Rincon. All-tournament senior Ty Batusich went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks. For the tournament, Batusich went 5-for-7 with four homers and six RBI. He placed a very close second in the MVP balloting.

L-W WEST 11 JOLIET CENTRAL 5

The Steelmen fell to the Warriors (3-2) in their tourney finale. Junior Alex Rocha led the Steelmen (1-4) attack with a single and a triple and drove home two Steelmen runs. Junior Gabriel Dunn had a pair of singles and had an RBI. Senior Elias Esquivel chipped in with two singles and scored a run.

The All-Tournament Team Steelemen selection was made before this game and went to Steelmen senior Gary Metke.

WEST SUBURBAN CROSSOVER

DOWNERS GROVE NORTH 5 MORTON 1

Some Trojans two Out Magic and some outstanding pitching won this WSC crossover for the Trojans (2-3)

With two out in the top of the fifth and the game tied at 1, Trojan sophomore Ean Czech put the Trojans up 2-1 with a clutch two-out RBI single. Senior Lucas Nielson followed with a booming double, scoring Czech and Trojans led 3-1. A Morton miscue made it 4-1 before Luke Wilson hammered another clutch two-out RBI double to score 6-foot-7 George Wolkow (3-for-4), who had singled for a 5-1 Trojans lead.

Junior RHPs Jack Miller and Mike Gorman combined on a one-hitter. Miller allowed the hit, while striking out eight in his five scoreless inning performance. Gorman fanned three in his two hitless innings of relief,to nail down the save.
