NOTRE DAME When the schedules came out, we all thought this would be a battle of undefeated CCL/ESCC powers, however, the Dons shoot for that elusive first win in Lombard on Thursday night. Dons defense has been outstanding in home losses to Marist (AP Class 8A No.4) and Providence.

ST IGNATIUS Wolves are led by QB Leo Rugai and his favorite receiver, Aaron Stewart. EJ Talarico, along with Rugai, lead the Wolves rushing attack. The Wolves defense has been solid allowing only 15 ppg.

After opening the 2020-21 football season in Burbank and River Grove, the Hilltoppers will return to Joliet for their home-opener on Thursday night. An expected crowd of 2,000 will welcome the Associated Press Class 5A No.3-ranked Hilltoppers as they take on the St.Ignatius Wolves at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

Hillltoppers 6-foot-3, 230 pound junior running back Jordan Anderson has rushed for 270 yards and has seven rushing TDs. Anderson also has a touchdown pass from junior QB Aidan Voss.

Voss has completed 10 of his 16 passes for 282 yards and three TDs. Voss's favorite receiver, junior Jake Fieldman, has five catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.

The Hilltoppers first-string defense has yet to be scored on and is led by the Hilltoppers unofficial team spokesman, all-state safety Jabril Williams and Sack Master senior defensive end Pat Strocchia, who both look to give the visiting Wolves a tough night in Joliet.

LISLE- The Lions defense tossed the shutout at the Comets behind three fourth-down turnovers on downs deep in Lions' territory.

Junior QB Tyrese Watson is Lisle's Hall of Fame coach Paul Parpet's field general, while handing off to RBs Gabe Quinones, Cole Campbell and Brett Webber and throwing to his favorite target Josh Farrell.

The Lions defense has an active five quarter shutout streak.

Coal City is a tough place for a visiting team to win. The Lions are sky-high after their Reed-Custer victory and look to enjoy their I-55 North bus ride after the game.

JOLIET CENTRAL The Steelmen are led by their sophomore QB Carl Bew, who has completed 13 of his 26 passes for 86 yards.

Bew's 16-yard scamper into the end zone along with the Steelmen defense getting a safety gave the Steelmen their eight points against Plainfield South.

ROMEOVILLE

After the Spartans defense shutout the Tigers in the first overtime, Spartan junior place kicker Corey Boyette's game-winning 27-yard field goal, vaulted the Spartans atop the SPC East, along with Plainfield East and Plainfield South. Fellow junior Jamari Christian ran for 117 yards while junior Alan Jones scored his first TD of the season on a 15-yard touchdown jaunt. Senior QB Austin Diamantos fired a 15-yard scoring strike to senior Calvin Glass for the other touchdown for "The Ville".

DOWNERS GROVE NORTH The Trojans were led by sophomore QB Sam Reichert and junior running back Keenan Gaston in the romp past Proviso East. On Thursday night in Carol Stream the competition steps up just a little.

PLAINFIELD SOUTH After being blanked by mighty Oswego in their opener, the Cougars bounced back big-time against Joliet Central. Led by 100-yard-plus games from senior RB Keith Bronson and sophomore Brian Stanton, the Cougars ran over the Steelmen on Friday.

Bronson has rushed for a team-high 177 yards on 36 carries with a pair of TDs. Stanton has ran for 170 yards on 31 carries. Stanton also has four pass receptions for 63 yards. Senior QB Izaiah Huerta has completed 10 of his 24 passes for 176 yards with a 30-yard TD to Liam Drapeau.

PLAINFIELD CENTRAL Wildcat QB Chris Leto threw four TD passes in the SPC East shootout loss to Plainfield East. Leto has completed 28 of his 61 passes for 364 yards and five TD passes. Junior WR Dylan Moscatelli has 10 grabs for 132 yards and a TD. Senior Luke Johnson has five catches, two for touchdowns and 66 receiving yards.

Aaron Larkins Jr. has broken the century-mark in both Wildcat games, rushing for a team-leading 229 yards with a TD. Luke Johnson has chipped in with 63 yards rushing. Leto can run, adding 44 yards on 13 carries with a TD.

PLAINFIELD EAST Dual-threat 6-foot, 200 pound senior Bengal QB Brett Winiecki has put up huge numbers up in the Bengals first two games. Winiecki has completed 29 of his 47 passing attempts for 449 yards with five TD passes and 0 INT. Winiecki only trails Bolingbrook's Vince Meschi in area passing yardage.

Senior WR Jordan Knowles is Winiecki's favorite target, hauling in all three of Winiecki's TD passes in the win over Central. Knowles has caught eight passes for 241 yards and four TDs on the season. Senior Connor Bright has seven catches for 88 yards and a TD, while junior Mike Morgan has six catches for 81 yards.

Winiecki has rushed for a team-leading 143 yards on 34 carries. Senior Taven Washington has 108 yards rushing on his 31 carries.

JOLIET WEST Tiger junior Skyar Crudup took over at QB for the Tigers against Romeoville and completed nine of his 18 passes for 70 yards and a pair of TDs. Crudup hit junior WR Carson Cotton from 10-yards out and then threw a 3-yard scoring strike to TE Nathan Peck.

The Plainfield North Tigers suffered another gut-wrenching, 'seems like this has happened before' defeat to the Oswego Panthers on Friday night. Can the Tigers rebound at Minooka?

They will be led by their 5-foot-6, 149 pound human-dynamo tailback Jared Gumila, who has rushed for a area-leading 286 yards in the Tigers' first two games. Senior QB Adam Smith has completed 13 of his 29 passes for 117 yards and a pair of TD passes. Junior WR Dylan Rasmason caught three passes for 20 yards, including a TD pass versus Oswego on Friday.

MINOOKA 2019 Bugle/Enterprise Newspapers All-Area wide receiver, "Big Bro" Trent Hudak starred for what many people think was the greatest Minooka football team, in Indians football history.

"Little Bro" Trevor, in Friday night's SPC West showdown with Oswego East was making a name for himself — thank you very much. Trailing the visiting Wolves 27-21 in the fourth quarter, Hudak went 95-yards for a game-tying kick-off return for six.

With 36 seconds remaining, Hudak hooked up with Indians senior QB Josh Davis from 18 yards out for his third touchdown of the game and an Indians' game-winner.

Davis, in the Indians first two games has thrown for 263 yards and three TDs and run for another 135 yards and another TD. Indians dual-threat senior Hunter Ryan leads the Indians with 229 yards rushing and four TDs and has caught 12 Davis passes for another 109 yards and a TD. Ryan's five touchdowns on the season only trails Joliet Catholic's Jordan Anderson, who has scored eight TDs.

SATURDAY APRIL 3

GLENBROOK NORTH The Spartans were crushed by Evanston in week one, but bounced back on Friday to defeat their arch-rivals from Glenbrook South in overtime. In overtime, Spartan running back Ryan Hensyl rumbled into the end zone from four yards out to give GBN a 21-14 lead. The Spartans defense kept the rival Titans out of the end zone for the 21-14 OT win.

MAINE SOUTH Hawks senior QB Luke Leongas has completed 22 of his 38 passes for 400 yards and four TDs.

Leongas' favorite target is senior WR Mike Sajenko who has eight catches for 228 yards and two TDs. Leongas and Sajenko lead the Hawks ground game with 68 yards apiece.

The Hawks defense, which throttled Evanston QB Sean Cruz and his Wildkits, are led by junior Teddy Gianaris (13 tackles,five TFL,3 sacks) and sophomore Connor Leyden (11 tackles, two TFL,sack).

LOCKPORT The Porters 5-foot-11, 180 pound junior RB Andrew LoPresti, after running over Sandburg for 186 yards and a touchdown, currently ranks third in the area with 231 yards. Senior QB Riley Pfeiffer has thrown for 151 yards with a pair of TD passes. Junior WR Ryan Little (five catches, 75 yards, TD) and senior Kyle Yelling (six catches, 64 yards,TD) are Pfieffer's top receivers.

BOLINGBROOK Senior QB Vince Meschi has now completed 43 of his 80 passing attempts, for an area-leading 538 yards and six touchdowns. Meschi's favorite receiver, senior Andrew McElroy, has hauled in 17 of Meschi's tosses for an area-leading 257 yards and three touchdowns.Freshman WR Kyan Berry-Johnson has also grabbed 17 of Meschi's tosses for 161 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders running game got a huge boost from senior Jaquan Howard's 158 yard explosion against Bradley-Bourbonnais on Saturday.

The Raider "D" 'is in "good hands" with All-State LB Ty McLaurin.
