D. 202 students earn top prizes in Plainfield library short story contest

District 202 students earned seven of the nine top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library’s annual Short Story Contest.

The Short Story Contest is open to fourth through sixth grade students. Students wrote an original story in 500 to 650 words.

The library received 91 entries from District 202 and other area schools.

Author Pablo Cartaya judged this year’s contest.

The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:

Fourth Grade

First Place: Coronadogs by Hope McSteen - Lincoln Elementary School

Second Place: The Snow Day by Sabrina Tolrud - Liberty Elementary School

Fifth Grade

First Place: The Little House of Bolingbrook by Alexia Ju - Eichelberger Elementary School

Second Place: Waking Up by Skylyn Worden – Walker’s Grove Elementary School

Sixth Grade

First Place: Paralyzed by Kyleigh Schrader – John F. Kennedy Middle School

Second Place: It Comes with the Rain by Charlotte McManaman - Ira Jones Middle School

Third Place: The Music Within Her by Lyla Luebbing - Drauden Point Middle School
