Niles-Maine District Library shares coronavirus plan

Last updated 3/12/2020 at 1:55pm

The Niles-Maine District Library is taking precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all

employees and patrons in the Library District.

Maintenance staff and overnight crews will be focusing their efforts on public areas of the Library.

They will also make certain that each public hand sanitizer dispenser will be adequately supplied and that

each desk whether public or private will be supplied with wipes. Patrons utilizing computers may ask

library staff for wipes to wipe down computers, keyboards, and headphones at their stations.

With the creation of the Niles Coronavirus Task Force, Executive Director Susan Dove Lempke has

been in contact with Niles Fire Department Chief Marty Feld. "I've spoken to Chief Feld and other regional

library directors about coronavirus contingencies. I am concerned about the health of our patrons and the

many seniors who use the Library.”

The Library will stay open unless area schools begin to shut down. In the event the Library closes,

patrons will be notified as soon as possible and will still be able to utilize the many online services the

Library offers such as downloading and streaming audiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, and more with

their Niles-Maine library card.

The safety of community members is a top priority for Niles-Maine District Library as the library

staff are closely monitoring news from the Center for Disease Control and are taking action based on

guidance from public health experts.

Niles-Maine District Library serves 59,000 residents in the Village of Niles, Unincorporated Des

Plaines, and Unincorporated Glenview. The Library is located at 6960 W. Oakton St, the northeast corner
