District 58 cancels events Thursday

Last updated 3/12/2020 at 2:10pm

In anticipation of guidance we expect to receive from the Health Department, and out of an abundance of caution, as of today, Thursday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m., District 58 will cancel all gatherings that include visitors who are not our students and staff.

For today, Thursday, March 12, the following activities are CANCELED for outside visitors:

The Fairmount School musical scheduled for today at 2 p.m.

The Herrick Middle School Center Stage musical scheduled for tonight at 7:30 p.m.

These performances will proceed with students performing but no parents or guests will be allowed to attend. The performances will be recorded, and those recordings will be shared with parents/guardians as soon as reasonably possible.

For today, Thursday, March 12, the following activities are CANCELED:

The Highland Geography Night scheduled tonight at 6 p.m.

Park District Basketball, scheduled at several District 58 schools, for this evening

Cub Scouts meeting at Belle Aire this evening

Nomad Basketball and Rebels practices, scheduled at O'Neill for this evening

Any other school activity or event that would bring groups of individuals who do not attend that school into the school building for the remainder of today. If you are uncertain about whether a specific activity is canceled, please contact your school principal.

We will evaluate whether or not these events can be rescheduled at a later time.

Note: After-school activities that only involve students and staff from District 58 will continue as scheduled today. This includes Champions. All other outside groups will be canceled.

Following today's Health Department phone call, we will send a follow-up message with additional information and next steps.

District 58 will continue to make decisions with vigilance informed by the guidance provided by the DuPage County Health Department. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Russell

Superintendent of Schools
