For the second year in a row, the Plainfield Township Community Center will be hosting the Sham-Rockin’ Fun event.

This event will be from 6:30 through 8 p.m. on March 6 at 15014 S Des Plaines St. in Plainfield.

“It’s a St. Patrick’s themed event for families with young kids,” said marketing manager Brock Stein.

In last year’s first-time event, 11 families participated in the Sham-Rockin’ Fun day, but the Plainfield Township Community Center hopes for even more participants this year.

This year, the event will include a scavenger hunt, themed family games (shamrock bingo, hangman, etc.), themed crafts, pizza and cookies.

In order to attend, someone has to be at least two years older with a responsible event.

The price is $15 per family of four; $5 for each additional family member.

An on-site registration fee is $19 per family of four; $5 each additional family member.

The minimum amount of attendance where the event will still take place is 20 people, and the maximum capacity is 50 people.

“It’s a very family-friendly environment for a great holiday,” said recreation supervisor Misty Bartlett. “It’s time to be together as a family and it might be fun to be in a different location then at home.”

A new twist will also be at this year’s event for the first time, as ‘Those Funny Little People’ who are an Irish couple that come in costume and perform entertainment with a 20 to 30 minute show.

“Last year it was fun when families came in their green outfits and they really got into the holiday,” Bartlett said. “We also handed out green shamrock necklaces, so we really enjoy when people really dive into the holiday.”

When asked about what she thinks makes the holiday so popular, Bartlett said that family and traditions are something that automatically comes to her mind.

“Some families have never had corned beef and cabbage before or get the chance to really get together and celebrate their heritage,” Bartlett said. “Everybody likes talking about leprechauns, hunting for shamrocks and of course everyone likes the McDonald’s shamrock shakes.”
