Plainfield Fire Dist. receives Fire Prevention Grant from FM Global

Building knowledge collected in pre-fire planning helps firefighters respond in an emergency and improves firefighter safety

The Plainfield Fire Protection District was awarded a fire prevention grant in the amount of $2,747 from FM Global.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District was awarded a fire prevention grant in the amount of $2,747 from FM Global. The grant funds will be used to purchase iPads with accessories to assist with pre-fire planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings.

The building knowledge collected in pre-fire planning helps firefighters respond in an emergency and improves firefighter safety.

Remembering Former Plainfield Fire Protection District Paramedic Kathie Roa

The Plainfield Fire Protection District is mourning the passing of former Paramedic and EMS Coordinator Kathie Roa. Before becoming a full-time employee Kathie Roa was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for the Plainfield Fire Protection District. Kathie graduated from the Will-Grundy Paramedic Education Program at Silver Cross Hospital in May 1988 and became a full-time Paramedic for the Plainfield Fire Protection District in January 1989.

Kathie received several life-saving awards and recognitions throughout her career and also developed a comprehensive infection control policy in 1994.

A wake for Kathie Roa will be held at the Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road in Joliet, on Monday, February 10 from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Fire Department walk-through at 7 p.m.

There will be a memorial service at the funeral home for Kathie Roa on Tuesday, February 11 at 10 a.m.
