On Joliet's West Side Tuesday night, 20 was the big number at Joliet West High School.

The white-hot Tiger girls basketball team were taking on Plainfield Central in search of their 20th consecutive victory.

The Tigers didn't waste any time in pursuit of their 20th consecutive win.

Joliet West (25-3, 14-1) streaked out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter and put this one away in the second quarter. Holding the Wildcats (12-16, 6-7) to just four second quarter points, the Tigers stormed into their halftime locker room up 34-12.

The Plainfield Central girls, led by senior, Kachae Donald (13 points), played the Tigers almost even in the third quarter. Joliet West led 46-23 and the Tigers rolled to the 64-34 win and wrap up consecutive No. 20.

Melissa Schimdt chipped in nine points for the Wildcats and Wildcat senior Jasmine Bonsu had another double-digit night on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Joliet Central 68 Plainfield East 48

At Plainfield East on Tuesday, the other powerhouse Joliet public school, Joliet Central (24-4, 12-2), won for the 21st time in 22 games, easily defeating the host Bengals (7-21, 2-12).

Maine South 67 Trinity 49

The Hawks (23-5) traveled to Trinity (13-16) in River Forest and came away with the huge road win on Tuesday. The win kept the Hawks unbeaten in 2020 and was their 12th consecutive win.

Up next on Friday for the Hawks, a visit from Evanston (20-4), who entered this week as the Associated Press' Illinois Girls Basketball No. 1 team. The Wildkits have stumbled twice since receiving the No.1 ranking. On Saturday they were roughed up by Lincoln-Way West (24-2) and lost Tuesday in Oak Park 45-43, to Fenwick (23-8).

WEST SUBURBAN SILVER

York 41 Downers Grove North 34

At The Purple Gym at Downers Grove North, first place in the mighty West Suburban Conference Silver Division was on the line Tuesday night. York (22-6, 10-2) held a 1.5 game lead over the host Trojans (22-6.8-3) in the Dukes' WSC Silver finale.

In an expected defensive battle between two of the best defensive teams in the state, York held a 9-5 lead after one hard-fought quarter.

Both teams offenses began to click in the second quarter and the Trojans closed to within 22-19 at the halftime break.

York opened up a 33-26 lead after three quarters. For both offenses, scoring points in the final eight minutes became a very difficult goal to accomplish as the Dukes prevailed and won the 2019-20 West Suburban Conference Silver Division championship.

For coach Stephan Bolt and his girls of Troy, a road game on Wednesday night at Plainfield Central (12-16) awaits.

SOUTHWEST PRAIRIE EAST

Plainfield South 43 Romeoville 32

The Cougars (13-12, 8-6) won on the road at Romeoville (7-20, 2-12).
