State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) is excited to once again continue her holiday campaign to address the difficulty many young moms and families face in affording diapers.

"In this season of giving, I'm asking our community to share in their good fortune and help out families that are struggling and the children that are our most vulnerable," Rep. McDermed said. "We're collecting diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash cream."

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, diapers cost about $70-$80 a month and there are 5.2 million children under the age of three living in poverty or low income families. Despite this, there are no federal or state government assistance programs, like food stamps, that cover diaper purchases.

Rep. McDermed hosted her first holiday diaper drive in 2016, "I've been blown away by the generosity of my constituents over the last few years, but it's not surprising considering the charitable communities and folks we have in my district. I appreciate their kindness and I know Journey has appreciated it."

Donations will benefit Journey, a local non-profit organization that helps struggling young women. The month-long holiday drive will run from November 18th to December 18th. Diapers and other items can be dropped off at Rep. McDermed's state office, 11032 W Lincoln Hwy in Frankfort. In addition, donations may be received at Rep. McDermed's office via direct deliveries from companies like Amazon.
