It was Homecoming 2019 at Minooka High School Friday night as the Indians welcomed undefeated and state-ranked Yorkville.
After 48 minutes, the Foxes were no longer undefeated. Improving to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southwest Prairie West, Minooka, rallied past the Foxes 19-10, before an overflow homecoming crowd.
Noah Ellens one-yard touchdown run gave the Indians a 6-3 lead at the half.
After Yorkville (6-1, 2-1) grabbed a 10-6 lead with seven minutes to go in the third quarter, the Indians and Connor Etzkorn answered.
Etzkorn raced 22-yards for what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown with four minutes to go in the third quarter.
Three minutes later, Noah Ellens, would score his second touchdown, this time from 13-yards out and junior Mason Spivey’s PAT put the Indians up 19-10.
With nine minutes remaining in the contest, Indian linebacker Mason Cave picked off Yorkville quarterback Josh Beetham to turn out the lights on the Foxes.
The Foxes never saw the ball again, as the Indians ran the clock out.
“The defense played great.” Minooka coach John Belskis said. “On offense, we played poorly, turning the ball over three times in the first half. Our turnovers led to Yorkville’s two scores.
"We played better in the second half, getting touchdowns from Connor Etzkorn and Noah Ellens. After Mason Cave’s interception with nine minutes in the game, we were able to run out the clock on Yorkville.”
