In what has been an annual Plainfield event for more than 10 years, Halloween Spooktacular is back. This family friendly environment that lasts from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on October 26 has been a large part of spooky fall fun in Plainfield.

"It's just a safe fun environment for families and friends to attend," said Plainfield Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Vitella Barnes. "I've been here for about five years now and it's been going on for more than 10."

The events that will take place are Trick-or-Treating at local businesses, photos at the library, free pumpkins, decorating kits, popcorn, raffle and photo-booth at Century 21, haunted word game at participating businesses, costume contest at Barvian Realty and balloon making at the PACC office.

For the Trick-or-Treating at local businesses, Barnes said it's a good way not only for kids to receive candy, but also for the companies to receive business.

"It does get really crowded so it's pretty cool it's a win-win situation for the kids and businesses," Barnes said.

Trick-or-Treaters can show off their costumes at the library and take photos, while Century 21 will host several games and activities, including more treats to add to the collection.

The event is not limited to the haunted word game, costume contest and balloon making at downtown business, as the YMCA is also part of the event.

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. a balloon artist will be at the Chamber office, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. a balloon making guy will also be at the YMCA, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. a "Trunk or Treat" event will be at the YMCA, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. hayrack rides, petting zoo and a bounce house will all be present for families and kids to enjoy.

To conclude the day at the YMCA, a family friendly haunted house will be set up for those who want to test their limits this fall season.

"This event is all about the community," Barnes said. "People seem to really enjoy it that's what we want to happen again this year."
