Edward Hospital's EMS (Emergency Medical Services) "Run of the Quarter" for April-June 2019 has been awarded to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District.

On June 9, Lisle-Woodridge Fire District responded to a report of a semi-truck and trailer that had rolled over on eastbound I-88 near the Highland Ave. off ramp. Crews found the heavily damaged vehicle driver-side down in a water-filled ditch. The 58-year-old driver was trapped in the wreckage with severe injuries extending from his left hip to his left foot.

Through continued education provided by Illinois Region 8 EMS and Edward Hospital's EMS System, Lisle-Woodridge crews knew they could call upon Good Samaritan Hospital's Level 1 Critical Care Transport Team, which was able to send a trauma doctor and orthopedic surgeon to provide care for the patient's injuries during what was expected to be a lengthy extrication process.

During the ensuing 2+ hours, the Critical Care Transport Team treated the patient with two units of blood and multiple liters of saline, and prepared him for transport to Good Samaritan Hospital for further treatment. The patient was released about three weeks later to continue rehabilitation.
